From the back of the field to the yellow leader's jersey — this is how we lifted the cycling federation's website

400 member clubs, a myriad of branches and a large membership base of all ages: it's no wonder Norges Cykleforbund struggled with overflowing content. Then it helps with a clean up -- and a floundering new website.

The Challenge

Norges Cykleforbund is a special association that facilitates activities in everything from road cycling to enduro, BMX and cyclecross. As the website they had from before was supposed to be an information channel towards both media, sponsors and members, it was perceived as unstructured and overwhelming.

There are a lot of problems with a crowded website. Most importantly, it is simply difficult to find out for the user. So when NCF came to us, it was with a clear desire to make it easy to find what you were looking for. There would simply be fewer things to click on — and fewer steps to the finish line.

In addition, they were not particularly happy with the publishing solution, which was both cumbersome and “locked”. And it was not made easier by the fact that this is a rather complex site, with different regions, branches and intersections. But that's what we fix in Increo — it was just stepping hard on the pedal.

Some initial moves

Although the customer had already made a draft sketch, and was generally determined how they wanted it, we were given few guides. As long as we mostly stuck to the brand guide, they were open to both new suggestions and fonts. That's why we just as well geared up and created a completely new style guide — with suggestions for both support colors, elements and buttons. We were pleased that it fell in taste.

So the page may be a bit confusing, but what do the statistics say? Here we did a Deep dive into Google Analytics: Where do people fall off? What does the mess actually look like? What does it seem like most people are really looking for? What we found here should form the basis of the new page structure.

This is how it turned out

And the result? Well, you can take a look yourself cycling.no. Once you enter, you are no longer presented with a sea of disparate entrances. The branches stand in the center. You have a hamburger menu that is clear, and you can get into the material in a few clicks — without having to wait for the entire page to load. Along the way, we've also added a smart, global search to the front page, and a simple online store where people can pay with Vipps.

We have also improved the publishing solution considerably, with far more flexibility. Administrators have received both training and user guidance — and they are freer than ever to post content.

The race is not over

But the tour continues, and the additional bookings are ticking in. Since launch, we have added course calendars, integration with EQ Timing and a brand new branch: e-sports! Because when the customer comes up with a brilliant idea, of course we throw ourselves around. It was new for both them and us, but it was great to be able to help them with the implementation of an all-digital cycling championship.

We can't wait to see what the next stage brings.

What can we help you with?
