Easier to get help in breastfeeding
WHAT a fun and meaningful project this has been — to elevate Ammehjelpen.no to the site it deserves to be.
Better website for end users
There was no doubt that our customer since 2008, Ammehjelpen, needed a new website. It was outdated in terms of design and technical, among many challenges, the site was not responsive, and did not meet the end users as they wanted. This year, the time had come to be able to give those the promise they need, thanks in large part to voluntary donations from parents of young children landed over via the closed Facebook group Breastfeeding Aid Group.
The task
Ammehjelpen.no is designed to provide general knowledge about breastfeeding and breast milk. The task was to create a new website, focusing on providing the user with as good a user experience as possible. We knew that the mobile format will be especially important here, since ninety -- we repeat 90 -- percent of users use a mobile phone.
This is how we solved the task
We started by looking at what insights we had about current usage, and about the target audience. In addition to familiarizing ourselves with existing foundations, we also did a keyword analysis and web analysis to map the usage of the website, and to find out what users need. That to understand the target audience, their situation and usage patterns, have been very important in this project. We have always focused on making the experience on the website as good as possible and meeting the target audience in the right way.
We started with a workshop, where together with Ammehjelpen we got the country's overall goals for the project, had good discussions about particular user experience, and made a plan for the project.
Mobile first
Since the mobile display was particularly important here, we have worked on the principle “mobile first”. We have also found (for obvious reasons by the way) that it will be convenient to be able to use the website with one hand. Therefore, among other things, the menu and search bar are located in the lower right corner.
Design that makes it easier to find answers on the website
The most important user task is “to find an answer to a challenge I have”, and we have worked on a basic idea about the “Encyclopedia”.
From the front page, the user selects the theme that is in question or searches the search bar that is highlighted. In the project, a lot of work was done on user-friendly categorization of the articles, so that they are easy to find both on the website and from Google.
Most people land straight from Google or Facebook, onto a long article on a particular topic. This is the type of page we have worked with the most, as it would make the most difference for users. Some steps we have taken to increase the usability of this page:
- Table of contents with shortcut down to the appropriate paragraph. This makes it easier to get an overview of the content of the article, so that answers can be found more quickly.
- Fit large text size and typographic tools, to make the actual reading as easy as possible.
- Easier access to other relevant articles and other content on the website
This is what we have done:
- Consulting in technology, user experience (UX), content and SEO
- Information architecture
- Design (in collaboration with Ammehjelpen)
- Front-end
- Back end
- Tailor-made WordPress solution with Gutenberg
In this project, we also focused heavily on SEO, as 80-85% of the traffic to their page came from search (Google). Therefore, it was extremely important to identify challenges and make the right actions that would maintain their position in the search results.
